Free roster templates

Free roster templates by industry

A ready-made week of roles for the kind of business you run, built for the week you pick, with the rest and meal breaks New Zealand law requires for each shift length and the national public holidays marked. Download it, print it, or email it to yourself. Hours only, no pay rates, no account.

Cafe and restaurant roster template

A seven-day week for a cafe that opens early and a restaurant that runs Thursday to Saturday nights: eight roles, breaks worked out for every shift, public holidays marked. Change the week, rename the roles, and download it.

8 roles, seven-day week

Retail roster template

A store open 9 to 5:30 seven days a week, staffed by a manager, an assistant manager, two sales assistants and weekend cover. Breaks are worked out for every shift and public holidays are marked, which matters in retail more than anywhere.

6 roles, seven-day week

Childcare and early learning roster template

A Monday to Friday centre open 7:30 to 6:00 with staggered teacher shifts so the floor is covered at both ends of the day, plus a cook and a reliever. Breaks are worked out for every shift so cover for them can be planned.

6 roles, five-day week

Trades and construction roster template

A five-day site week from 7:00 with an early foreman and a Saturday half day, for a crew of five. Breaks are worked out for every shift, hours are totalled per person, and public holidays are marked so a short week is obvious before it arrives.

6 roles, six-day week

Aged care roster template

Round-the-clock cover in three 8-hour shifts, with two carers sharing each shift across the week, a registered nurse on days and kitchen cover. Overnight shifts are handled properly, breaks are worked out for every shift and public holidays are marked.

9 roles, seven-day week

What every template includes

The minimum rest and meal breaks for each shift length under Part 6D of the Employment Relations Act 2000 (see the break calculator), the 11 national public holidays on the days they are observed (see the public holiday planner), paid hours per role after unpaid meal breaks, and a note on why the week is shaped the way it is. Timing of breaks should be agreed with each employee. This is general information, not legal advice. For specific situations, talk to an employment law specialist or your advisor.

Template questions, answered

Are these roster templates free?
Yes. Each page builds the template in your browser for the week you pick, with no account and no card. Download the CSV for Google Sheets or Excel, print it or save it as a PDF, or have it emailed to you with the CSV attached; if you email it we keep your address and the number of roles and shifts, nothing else.
What format are the templates in?
A Monday to Sunday grid on the page, a CSV with one row per shift (date, day, times, breaks and paid hours), a printable sheet in landscape, and an email with the CSV attached. There is no pay information in any of them, only hours.
Can I change the roles and hours?
Change the week on the page and the public holidays follow. To change roles or hours, edit the CSV, or type your own people and usual hours into the roster generator, which inserts the same breaks and marks the same holidays for any shape of week.
How do templates work inside Clockie?
In Clockie you build a week per location on the roster grid, save it as a named template and apply it to any later week, or copy last week and adjust. A draft can also start from what your staff actually worked. Rostering is included in every plan.

A roster that starts from your time clock

In Clockie the roster lives next to the clock-ins: save a week as a template, draft one from what your team actually worked, publish it by email or text message, and compare rostered hours with clock-ins. Rostering is included in every plan.
