Clockie vs Timble: per staff or per location with the maths shown

Timble is a New Zealand rostering and time clock app priced per location. Clockie is priced per staff member, includes visitor sign-in, and drafts next week’s roster from verified clock-ins. Which one costs less depends on your head count, so we show the numbers both ways.

Why teams pick Clockie

Both are built in New Zealand, both price in NZ dollars and both put NZ public holidays on the roster. The differences are the pricing model, how a week gets drafted, and what the clock checks.

Cheaper for small teams, and we say where that stops

Timble’s Essentials plan is $59 NZD per location for up to 20 people and Business is $135 for unlimited people (read 19 September 2026). Clockie is $29 including 5 staff plus $2 per extra staff member: $39 for 10 staff, $59 for 20 and $79 for 30. With more than 58 staff on one site, Timble’s flat $135 is the lower price.

  • $39 for 10 staff, against $59
  • $59 for 20 staff, the same
  • $79 for 30 staff, against $135

A roster that starts from what happened

Clockie reads the last eight weeks of clock-ins and proposes next week’s shifts, each with a plain reason such as “Worked Tue 8:00 to 16:00 in 6 of the last 8 weeks”. Timble describes repeating shifts and building a roster against labour cost; its site does not describe drafting a week from clock-in history.

  • Drafted from real clock-ins
  • A reason on every proposed shift
  • Or import a pasted roster or a whiteboard photo

A clock that checks who is clocking in

Clockie’s kiosk can require a PIN, a photo or an on-device face match, and it keeps working offline. If you would rather trade that check for speed, the optional Tap to Clock setting lets staff tap an NFC badge or fob on an Android kiosk, or show a printed QR card or the rotating QR code from their own phone to any kiosk with a camera, iPads included; it is off by default, works offline, and a tap or scan replaces the PIN and face check rather than adding to it. Timble’s pricing page lists a simple time clock on Essentials and an advanced time clock on Business; it does not say whether either checks who is clocking in.

  • PIN, photo or face match
  • Offline-first kiosk and phone clock
  • Unlimited kiosks, no per-device fee

Visitors and contractors on the same tablet

Clockie also signs in visitors and contractors, with inductions, host notifications and an evacuation roll-call of everyone on site. Timble’s site does not mention visitor sign-in.

  • Visitor and contractor sign-in included
  • Evacuation muster roll-call
  • First location included, then $10 a month each

What Timble does better

An honest look at where Timble is the stronger fit.

Labour cost while you roster

Timble shows what a roster will cost as you build it and budgets labour on its Business plan. Clockie’s roster shows hours only: there are no pay rates or dollar figures anywhere in it. If you roster to a wage budget, Timble does that and Clockie does not.

A flat price for big single-site teams

Timble’s Business plan is $135 a month for unlimited people at one location. Clockie charges per staff member, so with more than 58 staff on one site Timble costs less.

Open shifts and shift confirmation

On its Business plan Timble lets you post open shifts and asks staff to confirm the shifts they are given. Clockie’s roster has neither.

Choose Timble if…

  • You roster to a labour budget and want costs on the grid
  • You have more than 58 staff on a single site
  • You want open shifts and shift confirmation
  • You do not need visitor sign-in or an identity check at clock-in

Choose Clockie if…

  • You have under about 50 staff and want the lower bill
  • You want next week drafted from the hours people really worked
  • You need PIN, photo or face checks to stop buddy punching
  • You want visitor and contractor sign-in on the same tablet

Common questions

Is Clockie cheaper than Timble?

It depends on your head count. Timble listed $59 NZD per location for up to 20 people and $135 for unlimited people when we read its pricing page on 19 September 2026. Clockie is $29 including 5 staff plus $2 per extra staff member, so 10 staff is $39, 20 staff is $59 and 30 staff is $79, excluding GST. Clockie is cheaper or equal up to 58 staff on one site; with more than 58 staff, Timble’s flat $135 is cheaper.

What about more than one location?

Timble prices per location, so a second site is a second plan fee. Clockie’s plan includes one location and each extra location is $10 a month, with staff counted once across the business.

Does Clockie show what a roster will cost?

No. Clockie’s roster and its Rostered vs Actual report show hours only. Pay rates and dollar figures stay in your payroll system. Timble shows labour cost while you roster, so if that is what you need, it is the better fit.

How does Clockie draft a roster from clock-ins?

On an empty week, choose Start from what actually happened. Clockie looks at the last eight weeks and proposes a shift wherever someone worked the same weekday in at least four of them, at their usual start and finish rounded to 15 minutes. Every proposal shows its reason and stays a draft until you accept it and publish.

Does Timble have visitor sign-in?

Its site does not mention one. Visitor and contractor sign-in, with inductions, host notifications and an evacuation muster, is built into Clockie at no extra cost for your first location.
