TimeDock and Clockie are both New Zealand-made time clocks, and on the core job they overlap more than most comparison pages admit. Both run on tablets you already own. Both track jobs. Both connect to Xero Payroll by API, so timesheets go straight in rather than being downloaded as a file and imported by hand.
So the honest question is not which one gets hours into Xero — both do. It is what else you need the tablet by the door to handle, and what the subscription costs as the team grows.
Where TimeDock is the better fit. It sells purpose-built wall-mounted time clocks with a two-year warranty as an optional extra, which a tablet in a case will not match on a dusty site. Its crews tap NFC badges or scan QR codes, on Android and iOS. It offers phone, email and live chat support. And it publishes a wider list of supported payroll systems than Clockie does, across New Zealand, Australia, the UK and North America — if your payroll sits outside Clockie's NZ list, TimeDock is more likely to cover it.
Where Clockie is the better fit. Visitors and contractors sign in on the same tablet as the staff clock, with inductions, host alerts and one evacuation muster covering everyone on site. Clock-ins can be tap-and-go too — Clockie's optional Tap to Clock covers NFC badges, printed QR cards and a rotating QR on each person's phone — or verified with PIN and on-device face matching for businesses that need to know exactly who clocked in. Payroll reaches Crystal Payroll by direct API as well as Xero, with formatted exports for nine more NZ systems including PayHero. And at 20 staff across two sites, Clockie is $69 a month against TimeDock's $105 on their Bundled Plan for up to 20 active employees, which is their cheapest published option at that size; their Flexible Plan works out at $145 for the same team. Pick on the front door, the verification and the price at your headcount. On getting hours into Xero, either will do the job.
